Backmarkers cost McLaren the title? Rubbish

GrandPrix.com > News The GrandPrix.com writers sticking the boot in to Ron Dennis and quite rightly too. The team needs to take a long hard look at its reliability record this year and work extremely hard on it so as to help Kimi win the championship next year. It is hard to imagine him being anything other than the favourite next season.

Dan Wheldon bring the IRL title home

IndyCar Series Great to see Dan win the title although in all fairness no-one has come close to him at most of the races he has won this year, so no-one else could possibly deserve the title either. If you look at the list of drivers who have won the Indycar/Champcar title and the Indy 500 in the same year you see very quickly he is joining a very elite club. Let's just hope he can move on from here to a top drive in F1....or Williams!

Dennis criticises F1 backmarkers

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula One Ron mate. Those backmarkers are about the only thing entertaining in F1 these days. Live with it. Oh and try and produce a working car while you're at it.

Alonso clinches Formula One title

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula One Fernando Alonso became the youngest F1 champ ever yesterday but sadly since the race was deathly dull I didn't stay to watch the end - about half way in my wife and I had had enough and put something better on - like the test card. Congrats to Fernando but I don't remember him overtaking many people this year so is he a great champion?? Sadly I think not at present, but hopefully he can become one.

Blair admits BBC Katrina disquiet

BBC NEWS | Politics Can't think why anyone would hate America. Possibly something to do with them thinking they are the centre of the universe, the best country in the world, and the only country of any significance anywhere. Nooooo, clearly a lovely bunch of people. They voted Bush in and therefore deserve everything they get. Rant over

US to do first face transplant

BBC NEWS | Health All I can say to this is..........urrrrrrrghhhhhh

Keeping things in perspective

GrandPrix.com A highly thought provoking article from the GP.com crew. Is marathon running dangerous? Without question. But is anyone clamouring for changes to it. I dont believe so. Indeed I actually hadnt heard this story about 4 people dying in the race this weekend.

Byrne's big break

The Official MotoGP Website About time too for Shaky Byrne. If anyone has ever doubted the guy's ability you should just look up the tapes of when he got his double win as a wild card in the SBK a couple of years back. I just hope he has enough time to get used to the bike and track, and hopefully he can make enough of an impression to earn a full time ride.

Japanese Moto GP

Moto GP Quite an amusing Moto GP race. Must be something about this track because I seem to recall there being a whole stack of non-finishers as a result of a first corner mishap. This time half the field didnt finish, so the likes of Franco Battaini can potter around at the back at still pick up 5 GP points. Not sure there's any justice in that, but that's what you get for such small grids really.

Scary looking end to the 125 race with the Luthi/Faubel crash, but if a dislocated shoulder is the worst of the injuries then they probably got away with one there.

Another disappointing race from Chaz Davies in the 250s. He seems to be crashing out of a lot of races this year, so is not looking anything like as impressive as he did pre-season. Hoping he can hold a decent ride next year.

Tragedy on Rally GB

Racing-Live.comHearing the news this morning that rally driver Michael Park had died on a rally special stage this morning was one of those things that as a motor racing fan never fails to affect you. Sure these guys know what they're getting into but you cant help but feel desperately sad for such a thing happening when these guys were doing their (admittedly dangerous) job.

Also, you can't help but wonder what's going through his driver, Markko Martin's, mind right now. One can only imagine.....

F1 vs NASCAR??????

GrandPrix.comThis one is a semi-interesting article about cost cutting proposals in F1 or rather the lack of them, but it's actually the last paragraph that I'm particularly looking at here. To be specific - since when was NASCAR a rival of F1!!!! Sure maybe in terms of numbers of spectators then a NASCAR event (with its purpose built 100,000+ stadia) might well be bigger, but in terms of prestige, relevance to the public and public perceptions of ability, NASCAR doesnt even come close to competing. It's like comparing F1 with Bumper Cars....in fact that's probably quite an accurate comparison.....

IRL Chicago review

Been a while since posting here, but nothing particularly exciting seems to have happened in the sporting world. Yeah ok - there's the Ashes and to be fair that showed everything great about sport - close competition, will to win, skill, power etc etc - but it's still cricket and i couldn't muster up any enthusiasm to write about it.

More importantly, I was very excited watching the IRL race from Chicago this past weekend (BBC Sport). Fantastic win for Dan Wheldon which more or less wins him the championship barring accident before the next race - and a close finish to only 6 1/1000ths in it. Although if it hadnt been for a late race caution he would have won by half a lap.

Of course the big event was really the horrific crash involving Ryan Briscoe. Here's some pictures of it - Ten-tenths forum. As has been said a thousand times already, it's a real tribute to the safety features in the cars that he's still around to talk about it.

One thing that disappointed me was the way the US commentary team covered the medical reports for Ryan. The way they were talking they made it sound like the extent of his injuries were scratched thumb and a bruised pride - but actually I would call two broken collarbones and whatever else quite serious - not life threatening sure - but still worthy of a bit more than "Ryan's ok". Oh well, he's fine and that's the main thing.

Bosses sorry over Beckham slurs

Bosses sorry over Beckham slurs Hahaha - not a great week for Beckham really. Firstly, he gets to oversee one of the worse English footy performances in years and then I get to read this. Personally, I think the band in this report were right ;)
