Wilson wins maiden Champ Car race

BBC SPORT | Motorsport The most important motor racing event over the weekend has to be Justin Wilson's win in Toronto. He was miles faster than everyone in the closing stages - at least up to the yellow coming out for AJ Allmendinger's crash - and it would have been fascinating to see him fight with Paul Tracy for the lead. But PT lost his head at a key moment and that was his race over.

Wilson's a contender now and just needs a bit more consistency to be right there at the top of the table.

Rickardsson, Hayden and Montoya

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Motorbikes This was the first Moto Gp race I've watched all the way through in a few weeks, and sadly I didn't think it was all that exciting really. Sure Hayden was brilliant - there's no question about that. He destroyed the field but that made the race dull as dishwater.

Much like the British GP really. Montoya looked assured, confident and steady - not necessarily how he normally looks really - but he looked every inch a worthy winner. But it was dull....

And Tony Rickardsson won the Speedway GP yet again. Scotty Nicholls hardly put a wheel wrong in the qualifiers but made a mess of his semi again. In the qualifiers he showed his class and his potential for winning a GP, but he needs to make that final step up soon.

Button warns suitors of ambitions

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula One Good move this by Jenson - putting himself in the position of being most wanted man in F1. It might actually have been true anyway, but image is everything in the sport so if he looks like the man everyone wants to sign then often he'll be treated that way (Remember Eddie Irvine).

To be fair to Jenson he's been driving up to that reputation in the last few races and clearly BAR have sorted out whatever horrible problems they were having at the start of the year - it was about time too really - but now their challenge is demonstrating their ability to win races at the highest level. Honda have the pedigree but do the BAR team have the support to back him up.

Gerrard in shock Liverpool U-turn

BBC SPORT | Football He might have changed his mind today but I still think he's not handled himself well here. For the second time in two season he has been on the verge of leaving - he's either a Liverpool player or he's not - it's make your mind up time.

Mosley and drivers in safety row

BBC SPORT | Motorsport It's been a while since I moaned about the state of F1 but since Indianapolis clearly nothing has yet been learned. Sure there need to be rule makers in the sport, but in who's interest should they be acting. In the interests of the sport or in the interests of themselves, or more likely in the interests of Ferrari.

Earlier this week the F1 revealed a blueprint for the rules in 2008 which emphasized how much they were interested in the "show" that F1 offers. Funny really because they didnt seem to concerned about putting on a show at Indy.

I want to leave Anfield - Gerrard

BBC SPORT | Football Ungrateful little pr!ck. Obviously we have not idea what's been going on behind closed doors but on the face of it this looks like what he's had planned all along. First telling the club that he wanted to wait over talks and then telling them they waited too long all sounds like a man who was waiting for the right offer to come along. Tell us Stevie - was there a one or two day window in which talks were allowed or were you really not that bothered? Who cares? Clear off somewhere else they might want you.
