F1 sinks to a new low

GrandPrix.com > News > The American press speaks What on earth can I say about the US GP? What a joke! Hundreds of grown men couldnt come to an agreement after one of the biggest tyre companies in the world couldnt manage to create a tyre that wouldnt blow apart when put under the entirely predictable strain of a lap in anger of a well known F1 circuit. Absolutely pathetic....

In case anyone was in any doubt about whether F1 was in crisis surely knows better now. The sport has no leader, no direction and the FIA will still back Ferrari up to the last whether they are right or wrong.

Nobody comes out of the event with any credit, and no-one will want to have anything to do with a sport that is self-destructing quite as openly and violently as this one. Like I said at the start of the year - roll on A1 GP. It can't come soon enough.

Proposed changes to the rules for the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship

GrandPrix.com > News The Grandprix.com soapbox is clearly in full working order, although as always a lot of what they say is right. The F1 World Championship is dying - manufacturers are not happy with how its run, many are unhappy with their teams performance and boards are mainly unhappy about how much money is being spent - so spend less.

Nice and simple - the spectacle is the same - maybe allow innovations to go somewhere else, although arguably that's why Group C died in the 90s because technology went mad meaning that one manufacturer dominated and everyone else left.

Ultimately, the show has to be worth watching or everyone is going to look elsewhere. A fact that those behind A1 GP are no doubt only too aware of.

Patrick wing fetches $42,650

GrandPrix.com > News Utterly tragic. Right now America will do anything to make Danica Patrick famous. Sure she is good, but so are many male drivers at her level. This might not be a popular view but i think she is getting far more publicity than her current ability shows. It's good to see her in the sport, but really other drivers are just as deserving of the attention.

Williams criticises partner BMW

BBC SPORT The ongoing marital problems between BMW and Williams took a possibly fatal turn yesterday with Frank Williams throwing his toys out the cot over BMW's past criticism of the team. I hate to say this but in some ways you can't help BMW. Williams have been a bit slack in recent years, and the way the team has been left with just Heidfeld and Webber as drivers really don't make it look like the top line operation it really should be.

I appreciate I might be in the minority in my opinion of Webber in particular but he certainly didnt blow Justin Wilson away and no-one's claiming he's a future world champion. (Incidentally, that probably doesnt make life look any better for Sebastien Bourdais over in Champ Cars - again not looking much better than anyone this season).

Anyway - i digress - if Williams want to be treated like a top ranked team again then they need to look like it, and as a result must sign a genuine top quality driver asap. Whether Jenson Button is that man remains to be seen.....

Dan Wheldon

IndyCar Series site Wonderful to see Dan Wheldon win the Indy 500 last week. He was the class of the field two years ago when he ended up flipping the thing while trying to be naughty and block Sam Hornish but this year no-one could touch him when he hit the front. Sure on a different fuel strategy I think Danica Patrick would have pushed him close but ultimately he deserved the win. Now a commanding lead in the series should mean that he should needs half the luck that Tony Kanaan had last year and he'll be the first US open wheel champ from Britain since a certain Mansell did it way back moons ago. Nice work Dan!
