John Peel

BBC - John PeelA genuine legend in music broadcasting has died. I had the news yesterday lunchtime and it really affected me. It brought back memories of many of the times I'd been listening to him when I should have been studying or even those rare occasions when I was working, doing homework or whatever.

He was a man who genuinely was interested in music - far more than than in being a DJ (whatever that actually means) - and you could genuinely believe that he loved most of the music he played, or at the very least it intrigued him.

Yes, he fluffed occasionally or played records at the wrong speed or didnt cue records up - who cares? He let the music come first, and that was really all I ever wanted. His is a great loss to UK broadcasting and to world music in general. RIP John & thanks for everything.

Well done Chaz!

Crash.netA wonderful performance by 250 rider Chaz Davies in Australia at the weekend. 6th place in a World Championship event on a far from state-of-the-art bike was a fantastic effort. Very well done!!

Beckham in cunning plan shocker!

ReutersMaybe it's not the most sporting play you'll ever see but give David Beckham some credit. If he's telling the truth here it's one of the cleverest things I've heard about on the pitch in a while. Get yourself booked but don't hurt anyone, thereby clearing your outstanding booking while you're out injured. Very sneaky Mr Becks....nice one.

Andy Priaulx - European Champion

Autosport.com - WTCGreat to see Andy Prialux winning this year's ETCC. He has looked like a quick driver for years so seeing him winning an International title is great. And a Channel Islander too!!! Great stuff.

James Toseland makes the big time

BBC SPORT Motorsport MotorbikesGreat to hear about Toseland winning the SBK this year. I didn't get to watch this round sadly but over the course of the past two years Toseland has been by far the most consistent rider (other than Hodgson last year of course). Hopefully he will keep a good ride next year and see if he can repeat the feat. At the age of 23 it could be the first of many championships.

Gibernau seals Qatar GP

BBC SPORT MotorsportFor me, the story here wasn't the performance of Sete Gibernau which was as profession and efficient as any other I've seen this year. No, here the story was the behaviour of one Valentino Rossi. Firstly, the guy moans about being slung to the back of the grid for cheating and then he tries to knock off a couple of riders on the way to the front of the pack. Watching him falling off was the funniest thing I've seen in months!
